Honestly? The most blatantly racist things I’ve experienced came from other PoC, not white people. Someone’s gonna come for me with the academic/sociological definition of racism “poc don’t hold institutional power so it isn’t racism blah blah” which is totally true and I agree but in this post I am using the dreaded dictionary definition. Not because I agree with it (i dont) but because I don’t know what other word to use.

Yeah, white people dish out microaggressions like no other. Yeah, white people say and do a shitload of racist things but they usually don’t get it. Other poc have been thru it themselves and still they find it acceptable to be racist!

it’s other poc who call me a chink, it’s other poc who tell me to go back to China, it’s other poc who tell me asians are greedy or dirty or can’t drive. it’s other poc who pull their eyes back at me. In the same way, in the e asian community I witness a LOT of anti black and anti latinx and south asian racism..

what im trying to say is, if ur a poc yea it’s easy to just be mad at white people but u better be calling out racism in ur own communities. When ur mom locks the car doors bc she sees a black person pass by, u better say something. When ur brother calls a girl at school a chink, u better say something. When ur sister talks about getting “j*wed” or “g*pped” at the store, u better say something.

I get that white people are the only ones actually able to wield the destructive power of racism, but maintaining differences and hostility between poc only helps them do so. Ya white people make constant weird ass creepy racist comments and don’t worry, they don’t get a pass. But just coz ur a poc doesn’t mean u get a pass, either.
